Looking for the Best Rooftop Cafes in Kolkata? Check them Out!
Kolkata is a prolific metropolitan city and is renowned for several aspects. So, if you have known the city only for its tourist spots, then you need to try their cuisine as well in the popular cafes of the city. By that, I particularly mean the rooftop cafes. Studded with skyscrapers and brilliant hues, Kolkata offers a magnificent sight when viewed from an elevated height. And to have a glimpse of the city from such a height, there is no better way than to witness it from the rooftop cafes that have sprung up in the City of Joy.
After reaching Kolkata, the first thing I did was to look out for some of the popular hotels near me, and then I decided to check out a few of these cafes on my getaway and try their gastronomic delights. I was quite impressed by its culinary scene. What impressed me more is the view that complimented my mood and gave me an eye-pleasing view of the city. Having said that, here are the six best rooftop cafes in Kolkata that you can travel to without any difficulty.
Blue and Beyond
Located on the terrace of The Lindsay Hotel, Blue and Beyond has the perfect ambience for a laid-back lunch endeavour. With a menu ranging from dishes of Indian cuisine to Mediterranean ones, Blue and Beyond is the perfect venue to try the best of all cuisines. Although there is an enclosed area for those unwilling to sit outside, I went for the outdoor seating to enjoy the captivating view of the city from the top. Some of the dishes which I savoured here include the Calypso Fish, Mutton Bhuna Gosht Sizzler, Afghani Gosht and Strawberry Pina Colada. This place also has a range of refreshing drinks to choose from.
The Wise Owl Steakhouse
The Wise Owl Steakhouse is located in the relatively peaceful neighbourhood of Hindustan Park. I happened to discover this place by chance, after a hectic day from festive shopping at Gariahat. The wooden furniture adds to the rustic charm of this place. With a limited but brilliantly curated menu, The Wise Owl offers a range of dishes from both Continental and American cuisines. The rooftop is ideal for enjoying a chilly winter afternoon with a cup of hot tea. A Barbecue Meat Pizza and a cup of Hot Chocolate is what I ordered here and was mind blown with its taste. The subtle lighting compliments the entire setting, giving the place an old-world charm. The dishes here are reasonably priced and serve food in generous quantities.
Ozora is one of the upscale venues I visited on my weekends and came out utterly satisfied. Situated on the top floor of Acropolis Mall, Ozora has attractive seating to offer by the rooftop swimming pool. This place is ideal for cocktail parties, family dinners as well as romantic dates. The menu is specially curated with a wide list of exotic dishes and drinks to satisfy every customer. Offering a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, Ozora is quite popular among youngsters in Kolkata. Coming to the seating options, the place has a plush boardroom, elegant private dining spaces as well as a banquet to host gala celebrations. I had ordered their specialties- Peri Peri Chicken Pizza, Bacon Sizzler and Golden Prawns along with Virgin Mojito and all of them tasted brilliant.
What’s Up is one of the most popular places in South Kolkata. This place boasts a rooftop that offers a spectacular view of the city. Due to its comparatively reasonable price range, this place is often pumped up with groups who wish to dine with a view. I had booked myself a jacuzzi table which is one of the key features of this place. The most interesting part about this place is that some of its rooftop tables stand on a hot water pool where you can dip your legs and experience a spa-like feeling while munching on delicious Chicken Croquettes. Since the Jacuzzi tables are only a few, you must pre-book to experience a spa-like feeling. Some of its specialities include the Virgin Pina Colada, Meat Lover’s Pizza, KitKat Shake and Desi Chaats.
Out of all the rooftop eateries I happened to visit, Capella at Altair is the most elegant and charming one. As soon you enter, you will be greeted with a rustic subtly decorated rooftop with short palm trees perfectly complimenting the setting. Being on the terrace of Altair, Capella offers an unparalleled view of the city, especially when visited in the evening. The place was quite crowded when I visited but I somehow managed a table right beside the railings. With the walls covered up with posters from 90s Bollywood and Tollywood, it will give you the perfect feeling of travelling back to the golden era of cinema.
I hope this has been helpful enough for you to choose and shortlist your favourite rooftop cafes in Kolkata. Then do not delay any further and head over to any of these spots for a perfect hang out with friends, beloved or a solo date.
